I am a theoretical condensed matter physicist. In my research work I have been studying effects of SU(M) invariant interactions on synthetic dimension (SD) system. The idea of SD is to use internal states of atoms moving in a 1d optical lattice, to realize a hopping Hamiltonian equivalent to the Hofstadter model on a square lattice strip. The system is equivalent to particles (with SU(M) symmetric interactions) experiencing an SU(M) Zeeman field at each lattice site and a non-Abelian SU(M) gauge potential that affects their hopping. For M particles, concomitantly, the SU(M) singlet baryon which is site localized in the usual 1d optical lattice, is deformed to a non-local object dubbed as “squished baryon” due to non-local interactions between particles at different sites. In addition to this problem I have been also working on instability of d-wave superfluid in some "mean field" versions of t-J model for cuprates. Further, I am working on various extensions of the Falicov-Kimball model (FKM) on some two dimensional lattices with and without magnetic field.
